Eighteen months after Full Tilt Poker was forced to shut down by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) the online poker room will once again be back in business on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
Since its shutdown, it was a very frustrating period for Full Tilt Poker players whose funds had been blocked. Those in the industry also found this to be a very trying time as they tried to get the online poker room back on stream.
The Alderney Gambling Control Commission canceled Full Tilt Poker’s license after it was shut down by the DoJ for violating agreed terms and conditions. It was later revealed that Full Tilt Poker’s management had diverted players’ deposits for other purposes which resulted in there being insufficient funds to pay back the players.
Although a French operator Groupe Bernard Tapie was interested in buying out the online poker room the negotiations fell through because they could not come to an agreement with the DoJ on the repayment to American players.
Another leading online poker room, PokerStars, who had also been seized by the United States DoJ managed to continue its operations outside America and cleared its account with the DoJ by paying the required penalties.
PokerStars will maintain the Full Tilt Poker brand and will operate it as an independent online poker room. Players will be happy to learn that Full Tilt Poker is going live on November 6 in jurisdictions where online poker is legal.
Danish poker professional Gus Hansen was presented as Full Tilt Poker’s brand ambassador of the online poker room a couple of weeks ago and recently two more poker professionals, namely Viktor Blom and Tom Dwan have been taken on.
