Zynga Edging up to Social Gambling

Zynga, the online social gaming company, has been rumored to be attempting to move into online gambling when changes in the US gambling laws are made, for quite some time now.

John Schappert, Chief Operations Officer for Zynga, revealed that online gambling was “very interesting to the group” when asked by analysts to comment on the group’s first quarterly earnings as a public company.

Schappert added that he thinks that it is a very interesting opportunity due to the fact that they are in a unique position by having the world’s largest online poker game and have been running the most social online poker game for four years now. Schappert also said that they had record results last quarter and it is one of the top six games on Facebook. He therefore feels that they are in a good position and that it is a category that is interesting to them.

In the past Zynga stated that it was looking for partners for its online gambling ventures and has recently announced its intention to create a number of casino games.

Zynga has a mobile user base of 15 million active users each day which has grown five times in the past year.

Whereas Zynga’s games were available in only five languages last year it is now available in 17 languages with international revenue doubling each year.

Zynga also recently announced that it is endeavoring to create a place for people to enjoy social games and havie an endless supply of friends by launching Project Z.

Project Z is in an internal closed beta and will eventually be launched live.
