UK Remote Gambling Association Rolls out new GAMSTOP Program

The Remote Gambling Association (RGA) recently rolled out a new program in an endeavor to help protect vulnerable gamblers.

The new scheme will be known as GAMSTOP and has been formulated in order to meet the conditions for responsible gambling directed in the UK’s 2014 Gambling Act.

The GAMSTOP program will include a self-exclusion scheme giving gamblers the option to bar themselves from any UK Gambling Commission licensed remote casino by merely visiting the GAMSTOP website. The process for problem gamblers will, therefore, be streamlined and assist them in making wise decisions about their gambling habits as well as find assistance through support services that will be promoted by GAMSTOP.

Fiona Palmer, Director of Social Responsibility for RGA commented that the association had reached an exciting stage in the development of GAMSTOP. She added that new branding has now been established and the process design is extremely well advanced and the focus in the coming months will be on technology integration and industry communication.

Palmer went on to say that the RGA, of which Microgaming is a member, is confident that it will be capable of delivering a self-exclusion scheme on a national scale that is required to help consumers who need this type of assistance in order to manage their gambling.

Paul Hope, the UK Gambling Commission’s Program Director, revealed that the ability for consumers to exclude themselves from all online gambling with a single request will be a powerful tool for those that need it. He added that they welcome the work that the RGA is doing to develop GAMSTOP and look forward to it becoming available.
