The United Kingdom Gambling Commission released figures relating to the country’s gambling industry for the period October, 2015 to September, 2016 this week.
According to these statistics the country generated a record £13.8 billion during that period compared to the amount of £13.4 billion that was generated during the period April, 2015 to March, 2016.
The numbers that were generated by the online gambling sector was the most impressive with this sector being the largest in the UK gambling industry for the second time in a row.
Online betting and remote gaming services generated an amount of £4.5 billion during the time period which is an increase from the £4.2 billion that was seen in the previous report.

- Almost 107,000 people are employed by the UK gambling industry (down 0.4%).
- There are now 8,788 betting shops in Great Britain.
- There are almost 900 bingo premises.

- There are 176,410 gaming machines in the country.
- The National Lottery made £1.7 billion in contributions to Good Causes.
- Large society lotteries contributed £231.8 million to good causes.
According to a report that was published in March of this year, 48% of participants in a UKGC survey had gambled in the past month – an increase of 3% from the previous report, with 17% of those who gambled doing so online, 97% of which playing at home. The use of mobile devices used for gambling purposes increased from 10% to 43% since 2015.
