The international gaming giant, Scientific Games, has bagged a lucrative licensing agreement to develop games based on the legendary James Bond franchise. The exclusive deal covers past and future James Bond movies, and will allow Scientific Games to created themed games for land-based gaming, social slots and lotteries. The deal was signed between Scientific Games and EON Productions Ltd, a subsidiary of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
The chief executive officer of Scientific Games, Kevin Sheehan said that the Bond franchise is a long-sought after and exciting brand for the gaming industry. “James Bond is synonymous with action, excitement and next-generation technology,” he said, adding that Scientific Games looked forward to “harnessing the power of the Bond brand to drive innovation across the company in the years ahead.”
Also commenting on the exclusive licensing agreement was the chairman of the Scientific Games Board of Directors, Ronald O. Perelman. The chairman said that the company had been excited about the license opportunity for a very long time, and were thrilled that Sheehan and his team had been able to secure the exclusive licensing rights.
The James Bond brand is based on the fictional British Secret Service agent who was created by Ian Fleming in 1953. Bond was featured in 12 novels and the character has been adapted to TV, radio, video games and film. So far, James Bond movies have grossed over $7 billion in total, beginning in 1962 with Dr. No.
