Kenyan Government Would Like Online Gambling Regulated

It is well known that African countries do not have the best reputation of having efficient legislative systems and laws. However, Kenya is one country where laws pertaining to online gambling are currently some of the most explicit African laws and it would be great if other countries were to follow Kenya’s example.

Prior to the regulation of online gambling, players in Kenya could play two state-run online lotteries that were available via their PC and mobiles and could also visit a land based casino.

In 2011, with the help of the Canadian casino software provider Amaya, the Betting Control and Licensing Board opened a state-run online casino and sports-book – Betkenya.

Royal Kenya Casino, powered by Microgaming, the leading online casino software company in the industry, is one of the first privately owned online casinos to be licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board in Kenya.

The Kenyan government has definitely made the right move by embracing online gambling which is currently one of the biggest hobbies around the globe. Kenyan gamblers are in a position to play legally while the whole country will benefit from the revenues coming from the taxes. The regulation of online gambling should also see all illegal operations ceasing to exist.

The Kenyan government collected over $3 million from taxes in the year 2012.

The Betting Control and Licensing Board was established in 1966 and regulates online gambling in Kenya. Any gambling sites that wish its operations to be licensed in Kenya are required to apply for a permit at the Betting Control and Licensing Board.
