Alison Bradbury is one very happy lady at the moment after having won a massive cash prize of almost £67,000, courtesy of a five pence stake placed with Ladbrokes Bingo.
The sixty eight year old Scottish-born grandmother of nine, who hails from Castle Eden near Peterlee, decided to relax and play a couple of online bingo games at Ladbrokes Bingo last Friday night when she was unable to sleep. She went back to bed, happy with the thought that she had won £120.
The bingo playing grandmother only realized that she had actually won a whopping £66,508 after she was contacted by Ladbrokes Bingo 18 hours after her win.
Thinking that there was a problem with her account and because she recently overcame a triple heart bypass operation she handed the telephone to her daughter as she felt that her heart was racing and that it would be best for someone else to speak to Ladbrokes.
The Northern Echo newspaper reported that Bradbury intends saving the bulk of her massive win. She is, however, hoping that her win will put them in a position for her husband, Ken, to retire early from his job as a power station and petro-chemical plant engineer.
According to Bradbury her husband intended working for another year or so but the win could make such a difference to their lives that he could retire early so that they can enjoy their time together. She also intends buying her grandson a phone for his birthday this week.
Bradbury was also in the headlines in 1988 while she was running a pub in Rochester, Kent, and was named Landlady of the Year.
