Players at Bodog Europe have revealed that they have recently received puzzling notifications via e-mail saying that Bodog Europe would no longer process transactions in the player’s jurisdiction as from August 30, 2012. It went on to say that Bodog Europe would adjust all players’ balances to zero after that date so as to protect the funds. Although funds could still be withdrawn after August 30 it would be necessary for players to contact customer service via e-mail in order to do so. Bodog Europe thanked players for their understanding and apologized for any inconvenience that this may cause.
The fact that Bodog Europe did not give a reason for the shutdown of players’ accounts led to rumors at online casino forums which included that Bodog Europe wishes to service only specific nationally regulated jurisdictions, payment processing difficulties have developed in some jurisdictions or that the franchise holder is exiting the online casino business.
Bodog Europe released a statement in order to quell these rumors and stated that the only countries that are being affected are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Bodog Europe added that they wished to concentrate on their strengths and in the jurisdictions where they can offer the best product and also concentrate on growing existing markets.
Bodog Europe revealed that several of these countries have become a source of Internet fraud and that money lost because of this fraud or in combating it could affect their services to bona fide players.
